More rando pics

Just about done with this rando frame.  Here's my mock up of the front rack to locate the braze-on's

Reaming and facing the head tube. I prefer to do this on my lathe, it's much easier, faster, and accurate. I turn the crown race on the large as well.

Head tube end if things

Rear brake bridge area, I like single arm cable hangers even though they're more labor to make properly. Added a stainless "B" to the brake bridge as well.

Seat tube is all reamed and lug is cleaned up. Just have some finish sanding left, then off to paint.

Overall frame with front end mocked up. This pic was taken prior to lug cleanup.

Rando part 2

Dropouts with double eyelets added and dry fit to chain stays.

Scallops brazed in and filed flush on top of seatstays. I prefer this classic method for finishing seatstays.

It's starting to look like a frame. Brake bridge installed.

Crown getting prepped.

Now if it would just warm up I could get more done. My shop heat is having a hard time keeping up with the -25 degree weather. It was 45 in there today, I think it's time for a supplemental heat source!

at long last...

This place is finally making bikes!

853 tubeset just waiting to be a randonneuring bike.

Measuring and marking the butts on each tube to properly locate the miters.  Never trust the tube specs, my dial indicators don't lie!

Measuring and marking the bow in each tube (yes, they all have some bow).
I like to keep the bow in-plane with the frame so that it doesn't interfere with frame alignment measurement

Machining the head tube extension.  I make these myself to ensure they match the upper lug perfectly.

Shaping the headlugs.  In this case the front of the headlugs are carved to match the Mitsugi crown.

Engraving the BB shell with serial # and customer name.  I like the little touches like this to personalize the frame.

Front triangle mitered up and jigged.  Once the rest of the lugs are prepped this will be tacked in the jig and then fully brazed outside of the jig.  It's very important to get the alignment correct the first time on 853 frames (just like on stainless frames) as it's quite difficult to set the alignment after brazing.

More to come soon....

Week 1

Not bad for one week. The new shop has a roof, base is ready for concrete and the walls are getting framed.
Floor is also installed upstairs.

In more important news: ride Cayuna today for the first time. Spectacular, other than the 2 cut tires...

Come help me with the Africa Bike

This week Cheetah will be having their annual event to raise funds to help the great projects they sponsor.  The keynote of those in my life being the super heavy-duty cargo bike I've been developing with them.  We're ready to build a factory in Tanzania, but we need your help to raise the capital.

So if you can, come on out Thursday night to learn more:

It's gonna be a great event.  I'll be there with a few of the bikes.  We'll even be having races hauling potato's!

Thanks

turn this headset silver!

I've been meaning to post a bunch of parts here but haven't had time.  But I realized I needed a new (or used) nice silver 1" threaded headset for one of my bikes and I've got this nice 1" threadless blue King headset I'd love to trade.

I'm looking for a good quality and nice looking silver threaded headset.  A king would be great, or a stronglight delta, or campy, whatever.  Let me know if you have anything.

sad day

Stan's no longer makes rim-brake compatible rims...  I just bought some of the last 26" rims they had and they're out of 29'er.  The world is so sad sometimes.

Stainless gettin' started

This one is gonna be good....

super tourer

I've been really slacking off on the blog, but that doesn't mean I'm slacking off in the shop.  Bike are still churning out.  Here's a recent one, fully loaded tourer with a ridiculous amount of bosses for mounting a variety of racks.

In case you're wondering, that's a 5-spoke holder behind the seat tube at the customers request.  Nice little bike, should be a great long distance machine.

Girl trucker

Who wouldn't like a girly long haul trucker????

S & S retrofit with panel paint around the couplers.  We added a few extra pink panels to make sure people know this bike isn't for a boy!

get fit!

For anyone curious, the 953 road frame is still available, and if you're interested, but don't like the subtle etched logos, I can also update it with my Team-issue decals (orange panels).

I've also got a brand new Kinetic Rock and Roll trainer (in the box) with the pivoting front wheel stand as well.  I bought it last year, but never used it (i'd rather be out xc-skiing) and it's just collecting dust.  These are about as good as a trainer gets, the Rock and roll let's you get out of the saddle and rock the bike on the trainer.
$375 take it home.  This one is probably best for local pick-up, but I can ship it if you like.

And if anyone local is interested I've got a Nordic Track ski machine that's free to a good home.  Works great.

Just in time for winter!

used 953 frame for sale!

Well, the great sell-off has been incredibly successful, so I'm listing a frame here for a customer.  This is a rare chance to get a 953 stainless steel frame today with no wait!  Attitude blog readers will recognize this frame as it originally belonged to me.  It currently belongs to a customer and he's looking to sell the frame, fork, headset and seatpost. (I put pictures of the complete bike for reference only).  He's looking for $1600 for the package, which is an incredible deal.

This is a 58 x 58cm frame.  100% 953 tubing with a lot of special details.  Custom carved slant six lugs with "B" logo carved into the headlug.  Top-tube is round-oval-round.  The seatstay attachment is very unique, fastback style with a hidden binder all bare stainless.  Tubing is double oversize with 19mm seatstays. This frame is on the stiffer side for 953 as it's early tubing and the wall thickness was slightly over spec.  Very good for a rider 170-220 lbs.

The frame is currently in my shop and I can send you detailed pictures of anything you like.  There are a couple of scuffs on the drive side seatstay, but nothing serious.  I can probably rub them out before shipping.

The fork is a Reynolds Ouzo pro carbon in nearly perfect condition.  Seatpost is Reynolds Ouzo comp carbon post in very good condition.  Headset is cane creek S-60, works perfectly.  If a buyer would like a complete bike, I can certainly provide a build package and assemble the bike.

In other news, I just finished another stainless steel frame and 2 more africa bikes.  The big news is that the africa bikes are no longer secret, so looks for pics here soon and blatant pleas for donations to keep the project moving!
